Assar Art Gallery at Contemporary Istanbul 2010

PRESS RELEASE

25 -28 November, Istanbul Conventional & Exhibition Center – Booth A 202
As an extensive contemporary art event in Turkey, Contemporary Istanbul 2010 showcases 80 galleries from around the world with an extensive programme of collateral events in its fifth edition. For four days, Contemporary Istanbul will be hosting national and international galleries, artists, art lovers and investors from all over the world.
Assar Art Gallery’s featured artists in this edition of Contemporary Istanbul are Alireza Adambakan, Samira Alikhanzadeh, Reza Azimian, Mohammad Ghazali, Ahmad Morshedloo, Babak Roshaninejad and Sadegh Tirafkan.
This exhibition is a collection of art by seven artists dealing with present-day issues, investigating subtle intricacies of identity and society in a prevailing world. Utilizing a variety of media, including drawing, painting and photography, this exhibition brings together a number of artists who raise innovative questions about memory, society, the city they live in, and their personal histories.
Some of the selected works are overtly social while others are private and intimate in nature. Some of the artists are concerned with discovering an underlying social fabric, while others are engaged in observing the language of representation itself. All seven artists, however, create artworks that bridge the world of their local traditions and beliefs with their global urban reality, which reinforces the social, artistic and intimate tone of their work.
